Connecticut has the second-highest electricity rates in the continental United States. Ryan Fazio has a real plan to cut electricity bills by 20% — by ending hidden taxes, expanding reliable supply, and removing the mandates driving up costs.
1 ELIMINATE THE PUBLIC BENEFITS CHARGE
End the $1 billion hidden tax Ryan discovered as senator. The plan would end or sunset most of the over-50 government programs hidden in the charge and move any remaining necessary programs through the state budget for full transparency.
2 EXPAND NATURAL GAS CAPACITY
Expand natural gas pipeline capacity from Pennsylvania and open the Killingly natural gas plant that Governor Lamont blocked — providing affordable, reliable power while reducing reliance on expensive oil peaker plants.
3 CUT RENEWABLE ENERGY SUBSIDIES
End the Renewable Portfolio Standard, or allow all forms of hydropower and nuclear power to satisfy the mandate, to reduce costs for ratepayers.
4 LIMIT GOVERNMENT CONTRACTS
Limit any long-term contract for electricity to no more than 100% above the market rate for power, protecting ratepayers from bad deals.
5 END INEFFICIENT PROGRAMS
Immediately terminate programs deemed unnecessary, including the Intervener Program and the EV Charging program, among others.
6 STOP DEMAND SUBSIDIES
Eliminate EV charger subsidies, heat pump installation subsidies, and special data center tax breaks that drive up costs for everyone else.
