HARTFORD, CT — Republican nominee for Governor, Senator Ryan Fazio, today blasted Governor Ned Lamont’s proposed employer healthcare fee as nothing more than another tax increase disguised under a different name.
“After raising taxes by hundreds of millions of dollars over the last eight years, Governor Lamont is proposing yet another tax increase that will ultimately be paid on the backs of Connecticut’s working-class families,” said Fazio.
Fazio said the proposal is particularly troubling because it comes just months after Lamont signed nearly $200 million in annual business tax increases by extending the business tax surcharge and the unitary tax.
“Connecticut is taxed too much already, but Gov. Lamont doesn’t think it’s enough. If he wants to spend more money on Medicaid, he should be able to find it in Connecticut’s supersized state budget.”
“Gov. Lamont is catering to the far-left, but Connecticut residents want balance and common sense. Today, the Lamont campaign is announcing a tax increase, while yesterday my campaign announced a property tax relief plan. Voters have a clear choice between New Tax Ned and Fewer Taxes Fazio.”
