Fazio: Lamont Should Act Now to Suspend Connecticut’s Gas Tax

HARTFORD, CT — Senator Ryan Fazio, Republican and Independent Party nominee for Governor, released the following statement after joining House and Senate Republican colleagues in calling for a special session to suspend Connecticut’s gas and diesel taxes through the end of the year:

“Governor Lamont says he wants to provide relief. So where is the action? He talked about suspending the gas tax back in March. What legislation did he propose to actually get it done?

“He is the Governor of the State of Connecticut. He has the ability to lead and the responsibility to act. If I were Governor and said I wanted to provide relief for Connecticut families, I would act on the things I said I wanted to do.

“Connecticut could temporarily suspend the gas tax through the end of the year, fully funded by the Special Transportation Fund’s existing balance, and still have money left over. I call on the Legislature and the Governor to do so.”
